Coates Library has regularly marked Banned Books Week by displaying books that were challenged during the previous year. We want to do something different for 2023, a time when libraries, librarians, and books have been under attack in our state and across the country. This year, you are invited and welcomed to participate in a Banned Books Week mini-art display. This event allows our Trinity community members add their personal voice and perspective in the celebration of our Freedom to Read.
What: Create original works of art inspired by a banned book or author whose work has been challenged. Each piece represents the ongoing struggle for intellectual freedom and the dangers of censorship.
Who: Anyone in the Trinity community (students, faculty, staff).
When: Submit art pieces by Tuesday, October 3 to the Library Service Desk.
Where: Pieces will be on display for the month of October in the library near the ITS help desk on the third floor.
Rules:
- Artwork must be 5.5 inches x 8.5 inches or smaller (half a sheet of regular paper or smaller). Pick up a piece of paper or cardstock at the library service desk if you need it.
- Artwork can be any medium.
- The piece must be inspired by a challenged book, author, or censorship.
- Please label your piece: Artist name, email or phone, title of the piece, inspired by (if applicable).
- Use of AI is allowed; please add contributors as necessary.
